Our Town
On a Summer day the sun goes down
And slowly now the lights go on in our town
And another guy looks at his wife
And wonders why they’re living here in our town
And far away the world goes round
In fancy clothes they’re never sold in our town
Folks round here can’t afford to look around
And some guy shouts out loud at you
‘Cos of all the things that he can’t do in our town
And experts say that things take time
But we know the poor get poorer in our town
And in a draw in the grocery store
Are the last few cents that heaven sent to our town
The World Bank man’s got the upper hand in our town
And another guy looks at his life
And wonders where his dreams have gone in our town
He jumps sky high but his dreams won’t fly in our town
The papers say things are this way for reasons
Look at them now while they wave the flags of freedom
And far away the world goes round
In fancy clothes they’re never sold in our town
Brand new homes the TV shows in our town
Heaven knows where this thing goes in our town
In our town
