Strangers’ World
You know the way it is
Sometimes we just give in
It’s a strangers’ world we live in
But you see this man
He’s got an action plan
Won’t take one more day
Of the games people play
Feeling the strain
And everyone’s saying
It’s turning me grey
And I bet they know
It’s a strangers’ world we live in
Can you see how people are?
All trying to make it so big
When we all should just start living
Oh did you hear the news?
It’s the modern age
And we’re all free to choose
Which truths have changed
And friendship’s become
Just a casual sum
To help you move up a stage
Hmmm yeah and I’m sure you know
It’s a strangers’ world we live in
Tried to get a job
But they want someone younger
Won’t qualify for dole
Until I’m dying of hunger
Life’s a giant chess game
And I’ve made too many blunders
Try to make new friends but no one wants to know
Well I think I need a break
I’ve been working like a slave
And I still ain’t got a life worth living
Oh I’m trying to grow as a person you know
It’s a long long road
And God knows what it holds
Can’t look back
Just stay right on track
It’s a dangerous world
Yes I’m sure you know what a dangerous world we live in
Well I feel a kind of pain
Watching the world around me change
And folks so unforgiving
Oh you think you’re so woke
And I’m just some old bloke
An old fashioned guy
With a fog in his eyes
But I know what I see
It’s a creepy disease
And I ain’t gonna lie
Ooh yeah I’m sure you know
It’s a strangers world we live in
See me in the mirror
The view isn’t pleasing
Very clearly shows
My hairline’s receding
Like to buy new clothes
But my waistline’s exceeding
Try to make new friends but no one wants to know
What became of all my plans?
Reaching high and far too grand
Open doors to every room
Silent people in the gloom
Ooh yeah and I’m sure you know
It’s a strangers’ world we live in
